Standing Vigil

Heather once shared with me,

“Do you really think everyone wants to hear the details of my agony as I face the reality that my soul mate is dying? Do you think for one moment that they would stick around to hear that? “

The answer is a resounding “YES”, dear friend. Each ripple of your caring and glimpses of your life with Darryl reaches out and on to all humanity, but echoed in slight form by words and gestures distant friends can offer. That we each by each are ill prepared to deal with hospice, solace, condolence and grief is a failing of our cultural learning. This you are gifting to us all.

There is no doubt that whenever two or more are gathered in the name of cherish that the stars become candles for your vigil, and gentle rain but tears of affection.

This is surly a whisper of what friendship is meant to be …
